Walter Norris Jr.

January 9, 1945 - September 14, 2020

Walter Norris, Jr. was born to Willie Mae Neely and Walter Norris, Sr. on January 9, 1945, in Jackson, Michigan. He departed this life peacefully surrounded by family members for a new life, free of pain and suffering on September 14, 2020. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two sisters, Martha Stallworth and Marion Thomas; and five brothers, Harvey Hicks, Tyrone Norris, Dennis Hicks, Mustafa Shakoor and Norman Neely. Walter and Cynthia Boyd where united in holy matrimony on August 23, 2014 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Walter received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Spring Arbor College in 1972. Walter dedicated over 45 years of his life to public service , Jackson Community College and Jackson Public School Administration, and as Executive Director of Housing Authorities in Jackson and Lansing, Michigan; Galveston Texas; and Pontiac and Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi. He loved and cherished hunting with his sons, Anthony, Vernon and Shannon and nephew, Ali Shakoor; and even encouraged his daughter to complete hunter safety school. He equally enjoyed fishing with his family and left legacy fishermen to carry on his passion. Walter leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Cynthia Norris; four children from a previous marriage, Anthony W. Norris of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Gloria J. Norris, Vernon D. Norris and Shannon D. Norris of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Gwendolyn Walker of Jackson, Michigan; one brother, Jessie Neely , Jr. of Lansing, Michigan; eight grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; Three step-daughters Heather J. Selassie ,Danielle R. Boyd Michelle N. Boyd and 17 step-grandchildren 4 Step- Great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The National Kidney Foundation, 1169 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, Yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” St. John 11:25-26
