Born May 24, 1954, to the late Jamie and Ruth Mitchell, Titus “Tut” Mitchell was a kind and caring son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He may have been the ninth of ten children but he lived life to the fullest.
Titus attended Belleville High School, in Belleville, MI. A lifelong learner with a lot of interests, he went on to complete training in Introduction to Computers and Microsoft Word at Washtenaw Community College, and received a diploma from Stratford Career Institute in Forensic Science.
This practicing Buddhist served many, becoming an AAA sponsor even as he accomplished 19 years of sobriety. His accomplishments did not stop there. His compassion was awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation from St. Joseph’s Indian School for his support of the Lakota Boys and Girls Club, and the 2013 Donor of the Year Award from the Help Hospitalized Veteran’s Organization on behalf of thousands of veteran patients throughout the United States and GI’s still serving in the Middle East. He was even a generous shopper, recognized by Publisher’s Clearing House Headquarters with private deals and special offers offered to loyal customers.
But his greatest joy was his family. Titus was married to Denise Mitchell. Together, they raised her three daughters: Valencia, Phantayshia, and Stephanie; 6 grandchildren: Britney, Anashyia, Stephanie, B’Jon, Catherine, and Jonathan, as well as 4 great-granchildren: Murry, Phoenix, Vilet, and Septembrie.
Titus was preceded in death by his parents, Jamie and Ruth Mitchell, his brothers, Charlie Mitchell and Timothy Mitchell, and sister, Lovie Tolbert.
Titus will be most remembered as a fun-loving man who enjoyed making others laugh. He leaves to lovingly cherish his memory: son Titus (Sonji) Mackson, three granddaughters: Tira, Tabitha, and Ashley, one great-granddaughter: Zoey, six siblings;: Mattie (Garmon) Newsom of Belleville, MI, Jamie Mitchell of Ypsilanti, MI, Queen Mitchell of Ann Arbor, MI, Faith Jassey of Dublin, OH, Grace Roberson of Ypsilanti, MI, and Larry (Lois) Mitchell of Ypsilanti, MI, one sister-in-law: Linda Mitchell, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
