Robert Glenn Ford Obituary

Robert Glenn Ford, a vibrant and beloved member of his community, passed away on September 10, 2025, at the age of 69. Born and raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Glenn spent summers in Newport, Arkansas, where youthful adventures chasing chickens and hogs highlighted his wild side. Growing up in the Willow Run community—specifically Willow Run Village, Woolman Oval, and Appleridge—he formed the deep connections and lively spirit for which he became known and loved.

Later, Glenn made Ann Arbor his home, where he cherished every moment spent with family and friends. He was affectionately known by —Glenn, Rob, Low Rider, Haus Tie, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Father-in-law, Big Brother, Big Uncle, Homeboy, Big Guy, Big Heart, and Big Smile. His presence would light up a room, and his unmistakable laugh and infectious smile made a stranger of no one. Just like his late mother, Gladys G. Ford, his father Calvin C. Ford, and Brother Calvin L. Ford, who preceded him in death. Glenn skilled in conversation, he could talk to anyone and had a knack for nicknames, especially among those closest to him.

Glenn’s career led by dedication and craftsmanship. After learning valuable skills at Washtenaw Community College, he worked as a welder at the General Motors Hydramatic plant and later at Chrysler’s Stellantis Plant. He forged strong relationships with co-workers and took immense pride in his work. Ever the entrepreneur, he also owned and operated Rob's Mobile Auto Detailing in Ann Arbor, serving the community with his trademark friendliness and care.

Coaching for the Ann Arbor Recreation Department’s girls’ and boys’ basketball teams, Glenn mentored countless young people, providing guidance, support, and that tough—but always loving—piece of advice when it was most needed. He was “Unc” to his countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and community members, never hesitating to lend a hand, offer an encouraging word, or share a lesson from his wealth of experience. A man’s man, he built bonds with everyone—if you knew Glenn, you had a nickname.

Glenn’s greatest joy came from his family, who were the center of his world. He is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Frye Ford; his daughter, Amara (Gary) Williams; his grandson, Thelonius (Danayza) J. Williams, and his great-granddaughter, NayEli K.D. Williams. Also remembered by his sisters Ada M. Davis (Ypsilanti), Kathy Ford (Louisiana), Charlene Ford (Ypsilanti), and Jacqueline Ford (Louisiana); along with innumerable nieces, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Robert’s warmth, generosity, and enthusiasm for life made him a cherished figure in his community and among his loved ones. His legacy of kindness, encouragement, and joy will live on in those he inspired.
