Petty Fred Eddins was born on August 7th, 1939, to Gladden & Vallie (Hearns) Eddins, in Greensboro AL. Petty passed peacefully at home in Hospice Care, Friday evening August 23 surrounded by family & friends.
Petty (Fred) started working at a very young age in Alabama. He picked cotton, hauled wood, plowed mules, along with many other jobs. He was a hard worker and like many of his family, moved north to Michigan in search of better paying jobs. Petty (Fred) and Carrie were married in 1967 and moved into their house on Monroe St. in 1970 where they raised their children. Petty (Fred) worked at Motor Wheel for over 29 ½ years until it closed in 1997. Petty (Fred) often worked a 2nd job cleaning buildings and even a third job as a crossing guard at Perry School. He did whatever he needed to do to make ends meet for his family. Petty (Fred) loved to keep the lawn and yard looking good, and he would oftentimes cut the neighbors’ lawns when they were no longer able to maintain it themselves. He enjoyed visiting his family and friends on the weekends and sitting out on the porch listening to baseball games on the radio.
Petty (Fred) was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, assisted in cleaning the church, and helped with the maintenance of the church, lawn mowing, and snow removal. He did what he could to help maintain the church both on the inside and the grounds on the outside. Petty (Fred) never expected anything in return and was dedicated in his service until he was no longer able to do so.
Petty (Fred) will be remembered for many things… he was the friendly man that would smile and wave to everyone that passed the house as he sat on the porch. His smile was infectious, and he always seemed to have a smile on his face. We celebrate the values he embodied: hard work, dedication to family, and a selfless spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering commitment that will continue to live on.
Proceeding Petty in death was his loving wife Carrie Jean Eddins. Parents: Vallie and Gladden Eddins. Siblings: Ward Jr. Eddins, Earl Hearns, Bertha Mae Hearns, Rebecca Drummer, Jonnie Lee Eddins, Loyd Clinton Eddins, Robert Eddins, Limmie Ruth Eddins, and Gladys Streeter.
Petty will be greatly missed but leaves many lasting memories for all to cherish.
