Melva Jean Jefferson (Ethington, Yargee)
Melva was the 2nd of 7 children, born to Thomas Lee and Lillie Lou Jefferson (Hunter) in Clark County, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Harold, Vivian (Lynn), Louis, and Gary, her son, James Ethington, Jr., and her nephew Geoffrey Lynn.
Her family relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan very early in her life, and she would eventually spend her last I2 years in Farmington Hills.
Melva was known to close family and friends as "Shuga Mama", due to her caring and nurturing spirit. Her younger siblings and relatives often looked to her as a "mother figure”, something that continued throughout her entire life.
Blessed with an amazing intellectual wit, Melva was a member of the National Honor Society in high school, a member of MENSA, a high IQ society based out of the United Kingdom—as well as being seen as "the life of the party”; Certainly, an enviable combination of gifts to have.
After graduating high school, Melva attended Cleary college and the University of Michigan.
She leaves behind her surviving siblings, Thomas Jefferson, and Terry Jefferson. Sons, Darryl (Melissa) Ethington, and Daiego Yargee. 7 Grandchildren, Jasmine, Jamaica, James, Jitter, Christian, Bailye, and Daiego Jefferson-Yargee Jr. And 5 Great Grandchildren.
Per Melva’s wishes no funeral will be held, cremation has taken place. At a later date, a celebration of life will take place in the community that Melva resided in.
