Mattie "Bea" Reveire Obituary

Mattie Belle Maxine Reveire also known as Bea, lived a life rich in experiences and connections. Born in Moundsville, Alabama, on October 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James and Roberta Bishop. Mattie embarked on her educational journey after high school, attending Alabama A & M University.

After earning her degree in 1959, Mattie set her sights on Michigan, where she found more than just a job. Fate led her to Edward, and together they built a life that spanned 62 years. Their union brought forth two daughters, Kimberly and Sheryl (Sherri).

Mattie's professional journey led her to the University of Michigan, where she made history as the first black Food Service administrator at a campus dormitory. Education remained a cornerstone of her life, and she was genuinely interested in the academic pursuits of young people, always encouraging them to strive for the best.

Her spiritual side found expression at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Ypsilanti, where she dedicated herself to teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mattie's musical talents shone as she served as the Minister of Music and pianist for an impressive 50 years. Retirement came under the guidance of Pastor Garther Roberson, marking the end of an era filled with devotion and service.

Bible Study was another avenue where Mattie found joy, attending regularly, and reveling in the spiritual growth it offered. Her presence at Mt. Hermon, where her son-in-law serves as pastor, was a testament to her unwavering faith and commitment to community.

Beyond her professional and spiritual pursuits, Mattie had a love for reading and word search puzzles, showcasing her intellectual curiosity and sharp mind. Her love for family was unmatched. She was a hilarious impersonator who shared family stories at family gatherings.

As she leaves this world, Mattie is survived by her daughters Kimberly (Phillip) Ferrell and Sheryl Reveire, three grandchildren, Phillip Ferrell II, Dion Ferrell, Alishia (Derrek) Anderson, twelve great-grandchildren, Joia, Israel, Dylan, Kylie Grace, Brenton, Micah, Eva Grace, Prince Phillip, Grayson, Haven Grace, Gavin, and Olivia Grace, a godson, Aaron Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Though she has left this earthly realm, Mattie is preceded in death by her husband, Edward, parents, James and Roberta, great-grandson Derrek Jr. (DJ), and siblings Charles Bishop, Rosa Davis, Johnny Bishop, Jasper Bishop, Pearl Jones, and Larry Bishop. Mattie’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her soul rest in peace, surrounded by the heavenly melodies she so faithfully played on Earth.
