Mary Evelyn Herndon (Frazier), age 87, entered eternal rest on December 7, 2025. She was born on October 20, 1938, in Malvern, Arkansas, to Horace Frazier and Willie Mae Nolen.
Mary was united in holy matrimony with Charles Herndon on July 16, 1960. Together they shared a loving marriage for 45 years. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted and faithful member of Mt. Olive Church of God in Christ, where she worshipped and served with love and dedication throughout her life.
Mary obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in 1962. She served with the Ypsilanti Housing Commission and later retired in 2021 from the Royal Oak Housing Commission, following 45 years of service.
Mary leaves to cherish her precious memory her children: Gary (Tammi) Herndon, Corey (Nakia) Herndon-Bey, LaKrecia Herndon; step-daughter, Carvetta Laginess; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and five siblings all of whom brought her great pride and joy. She was one of ten siblings and was preceded in death by her son, Michael Herndon; her husband, Charles Herndon; her parents, and four siblings.
Mary’s greatest joys were found in teaching those she loved and spending time with her family, creating memories filled with warmth, laughter, and love that will be forever cherished.
