Lula (Tuda) Fortson was born in Columbus, Georgia, to Annie Belle Bacon Thomas and Mack Thomas, Sr. Lula relocated to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and worked as a cook at the University of Michigan Hospital. After working at the hospital, she cared for many children and enjoyed cooking for family and friends every Sunday. She was also a Foster Grandparent.
Lula was one of twelve siblings. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Sarah, Eloise, Rosa Mae, Annie Belle, and Lillie, and four brothers, Mack, Randolph, Tom, and Leroy.
Lula leaves to cherish four children: Theresa, Wenda (Wendy), Brenda, and Curtis. She was the adoptive mother of Carlton (Butch), Brandon and Michael. Twenty grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, her sister Mattie Stephens, her brother George (Betty) Thomas and, sisters-in-law Charlene Thomas and Fannie Thomas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
