June L. “Hawk” Hawkins, 71, passed away on September 29, 2025, in
Ypsilanti, Michigan. Born on December 15, 1953, in Florence, Alabama, June
made his way to Michigan where he built a life rooted in hard work, quiet
strength, and unmistakable charm.
A graduate of Ypsilanti High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan, June was known
for his dedication and tireless work ethic. He spent many years working at
Hydramatic GM and later at Kroger’s, where he became a familiar face to
coworkers and customers alike. His commitment to both roles reflected his
determination and sense of responsibility—qualities that defined much of his
life. After years of service at both companies, he retired with the satisfaction
of a job well done.
June’s personality left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Affectionately known as “Hawk,” he was recognized for his infectious laughter
and million-dollar smile—traits that could light up any room. Though private
by nature and sometimes stubborn, June had a clear sense of purpose. When he
set his mind to something, there was no deterring him; he pursued his goals
with quiet resolve and unwavering focus.
Outside of work, June found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing
—spending time near the water brought him peace and contentment. Music
was another passion that filled his days with rhythm and soul. He appreciated
a good meal shared among family or friends and occasionally enjoyed testing
his luck at the slot machines during visits to the casino.
June’s legacy lives on through a large and loving family. He is remembered by
his father Jimmie Hawkins, siblings Jimmy Earl Hawkins, Gwendolyn Cherry,
Kenneth Hawkins, Vivian Hawkins, Tiffany Ryans, Jeremy Ryans and Linda
Hawkins, his children Schalonda Isaac, June L. Hawkins Painter, and Anthony
Hawkins, his grandchildren LonTonio Isaac, Precious Isaac, Sha'Toya Isaac,
An'Teeshia Isaac, Anthony Hawkins Jr, Joshua Hawkins, Kali Hawkins,
DeAndre Brooks-Painter, Se'Mina Dabney, Donnell Dabney Jr, and Sin'Cere
Johnson, as well a host other family members and friends.
He now joins in rest his beloved family members who preceded him in death:
his mother Ruby Mae Hawkins, his sister Denise Hawkins, and his grandson
LonTonio Isaac.
June L. “Hawk” Hawkins will be remembered not only for the hours he gave to
his work but also for the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him.
His laughter echoes in memory; his smile remains etched in the hearts of many.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Funeral Service will be
held on October 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at C & H Community For Funerals
located at 411 S. Adams St in Ypsilanti, MI. A Celebration of Life will be held
