Annie Mae Robinson Obituary

Annie Mae Robinson was born February 29, 1940, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Morgan and Claudie Mae (Russell) Robinson. She was the oldest of six children. In 1948 Annie moved to Ypsilanti with her family. Annie peacefully entered into rest on November 1, 2025.

Annie graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1959. Annie worked as a Paraprofessional for Ypsilanti Public Schools for 26 years and retired in 2001. After her retirement, Annie expounded on her true passion for working with children by volunteering for the Washtenaw County Foster Grandparent Program for several years. Annie was heavily involved in her community and participated in civic duties as an election worker for many years at every election. Annie was referred to by several people as one of Ypsilanti’s historians. She was also avery a very dedicated daughter, who devoted 17 years to the care of her late mother.

Annie became a member of Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Ypsilanti in 1950 under the leadership of the late Rev. J.J. Johnson until her death under the current leadership of Rev. Donald L. Phillips, lll and Rev. Teleah Phillips. During her membership at Brown Chapel Annie served as the church secretary for many years. Annie also served as a Vacation Bible School teacher with pride for numerous years where she garnered a true bond with many youths. Annie loved to travel and loved doing word puzzles.

Annie was proceeded in death by her parents, Morgan and Claudie. Her siblings Morgan Jr, Edward, Eunice and James “Cookie”.

Annie leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Terri “Robinson” Young of West Bloomfield; Lisa “Robinson” Lewis of Superior Township; one brother, William (Kay) Robinson of Ann Arbor; a special sister-in-law, Thelma Robinson of Ypsilanti; and Vanessa Robinson, one grandson, the apple of her eye, Dantè Henderson of Atlanta, GA; two bonus granddaughters, Bianca Griffin and LaNia Slaton of Ypsilanti; and a host of nieces, nephews, great - nieces and nephews, family and friends.
