Hulbert "Ray" Myers was born on August 25, 1942, in Barnesville, Ohio to Hulbert Vance and Katherine Arnetta Myers. He moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he attended Ann Arbor High School. In 1959 he decided to join the United States Army. After being in service in Germany, he returned after an honorable discharge.
He began a successful career in Real Estate Appraising and worked as an assessor for the City of Ann Arbor, and for General Motors Argonaut division. In 1984, he met and married Dora Mae Wade and became stepfather to her daughter Shari.
Over the next few years, he realized his dream of building and launching his own company, Real Estate by Myers. Over the course of his 50+ years of experience, he generated commercial, industrial, and residential appraisals, Real Estate sales, and garnered multiple designations. He was also a long-standing member of the American Society of Appraisers. He retired in 2020 from Spearhead Realty, his last business venture.
Ray was known for his love of friends and family. He loved fishing and entertaining at his home in W. Bloomfield, Michigan. He was faithful, reliable, and always there for those in need. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dora Myers, one daughter, Shari (Kevin) Stephens. Four grandchildren, Allen (Chiamaka) Gulley, Jessica Morton, Poppy Stephens and Kevin Stephens II. His three great-grandchildren, Kai Morton, Naima Morton, and Isaac Gulley. He has one sister who preceded him in death, Judy Reed. He is survived by his sisters Jean Myers, Sandra Middleton, one brother Victor Drake, and multiple foster siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The man is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.
