Harriett Anita Kerridge (Allen) was born May 9, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to Mr. James Allen Jr. and Mrs. Ruth Irene Allen (Taylor). Anita loved God, family and meeting new people. Her personality was as colorful and vibrant as her clothing. She was full of life, always shining her radiant light, showing off her unforgettable smile and laughing! Anita was a beautiful, encouraging and uplifting mother who loved her children, Mark and Sonya, with all her heart. Upon the passing of her daughter, Anita’s motherly love carried over into the raising of her granddaughter, Christiana.
Anita enjoyed showering others with God’s love through offering intercessory prayer and distributing The Daily Bread. She had a lot of love to give. She was a kind, content and warm hearted woman who always loved to serve and support others. From providing clothing, food, monetary help, greeting cards or simply a phone call to say hello, you could count on Anita to be there. She was known for creating genuine friendships throughout her lifetime. Everyone who had the opportunity to get to know Anita knew her as a loyal friend, confidant, jokester and all around good person.
Anita was a faithful member of Christian Love Fellowship Ministries International since its inception, fulfilling many roles including Sunday school teacher. She adored children and their families alike. Anita also extended her hands outside the church and was a faithful servant to her community through various volunteer work opportunities including the United Way.
Anita graduated from Ann Arbor High School (currently Pioneer High School) in 1962. She started her career at the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department as a dedicated Sheriff Deputy’s Secretary. After 14 years of service, Anita retired from Washtenaw County to pursue other interests. A woman of strong ambitions and a mindset to soar, she continued her education and earned an Associate's Degree from Washtenaw Community College in 1987. Anita started a new career endeavor as an Administrative Secretary at the University of Michigan. She worked there for 20+ years, completing the final chapter of her career with this second retirement.
